This week on Political Pulse, host Tom Shortell and political scientist Chris Borick dive into whether Trump has held his word on the policies he campaigned on and how it’s impacted his approval ratings.
“If you take them piece by piece, Tom, and kind of look at all of those things that you just mentioned — more security, immigration, ICE,” Borick said. “It’s a mixed bag.”
Borick said he feels Trump has retained positive opinions about his border control policies.
“Americans prefer that, they voted on it,” Borick said.
Alternatively, Borick said Trump’s policies on immigration, like his use of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “gets quite muddy.”
When the administration highlights cases of removing illegal immigrants who have engaged in crime, the public appears to be supportive, Borick said.
Opinions change, he said, when arrests then involve immigrants who “are not criminal in their behaviors or their records and are living lives that are by all measures seem normal and productive.”
